Dexter has confirmed there are two stars from the original series who won't be back for the New Blood revival.

James Remar, who plays Miami police officer and Dexter's late adoptive father Harry Morgan, is not returning for the spin-off.

However, Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter), Dexter's foster sister and Harry's biological child, will step into Harry's role, having died at the end of season eight in the original series.

Yvonne Strahovski's character Hannah McKay, Dexter's love interest, will also not feature in the new series.

But fans will finally get to meet Dexter's teenage son Harrison, played by Jack Alcott. It has also been teased that someone else from Dexter's past will be returning, but details of who that might be are being kept under wraps for now.

Despite these key characters not coming back for New Blood, there are several other key roles that will be back.

The official synopsis describes the plot of the upcoming revival: "Set 10 years after Dexter Morgan went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, the revival sees the character now living under an assumed name in a world away from Miami."

Dexter will be found living in the town of Iron Lake under the fake name Jim Lindsay, before his circumstances lead him back towards old habits.

Michael C Hall will of course be returning as the titular character alongside Jennifer Carpenter. John Lithgow, who played the Trinity Killer, will also be back to guest star in the new series.

Also joining the cast will be Julia Jones (The Mandalorian, Twilight) playing a police chief in Iron Lake, Alano Miller (Jane the Virgin) as a police sergeant, and Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption, Billions) as Kurt Caldwell as the villain, a truck stop owner and the "unofficial" town mayor.
