The title of the 'Doctor Who' centenary special has been revealed to be 'The Power of the Doctor'.

The adventure - which is part of the BBC's celebrations to mark 100 years of broadcasting - will be Jodie Whittaker's final outing as the Thirteenth Doctor and the end of the episode is expected to see her regenerate into the Fourteenth Doctor, played by 'Sex Education' star Ncuti Gatwa, although his appearance has not yet been confirmed.

The title was revealed in the new issue of Doctor Who Magazine, which includes a 20-page special on Jodie's last trip in the TARDIS.

In the episode, the Time Lord will battle three of the most deadliest foes that exist in the universe; the Daleks, the Cybermen and the Master (Sacha Dhawan).

The special will also see the return of actresses Janet Fielding and Sophie Aldred as their respective companions Tegan and Ace.

Air stewardess Tegan travelled with the Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) and Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) and featured in 64 episodes, while Ace shared the TARDIS with the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) and appeared in 31 episodes and holds the distinction of being the final companion of the classic series which was taken off air in 1989.

Showrunner Chris Chibnall - who is also leaving the BBC One show at the same time as Jodie - has described 'The Power of the Doctor' as an "epic and emotional send-off for the Thirteenth Doctor".

He previously said: "Jodie’s final feature-length story contains a plethora of treats and surprises for audiences and fans, not least the return of two of the most beloved companions in the show’s history.

"They’ll be helping the Doctor fight on three fronts, against her deadliest enemies: the Master, Daleks and Cybermen, in one huge story!

"For the BBC’s centenary, we’ll be celebrating the past, present and future of Doctor Who, in a fittingly thrilling, epic and emotional send-off for the Thirteenth Doctor."

Russell T Davies is returning as 'Doctor Who' showrunner following 'Broadchurch' writer Chibnall's exit. The 'It's A Sin' scribe was the man responsible to bringing the sci-fi series back to screens in 2005 and making it a ratings hit.

Filming has already begun on the 60th anniversary 'Doctor Who' specials which will precede the fourteenth series and it is known that Russell, 59, has brought back Tenth Doctor David Tennant and his companion Donna - played by Catherine Tate - for the highly-anticipated adventures.

'The Power of the Doctor' is due to air on BBC One in October.

episode is expected to end with the Thirteenth Doctor's regeneration, with preparing to take over the TARDIS alongside returning showrunner Russell T Davies.
