Doctor Who fans have been given a sneak peek at scenes from the forthcoming BBC centenary special episode The Power of the Doctor.

The episode, as well as celebrating the broadcaster's milestone anniversary, also marks Jodie Whittaker's last time on screen as the Time Lord, as she completes the range of specials that follow her already-aired last main series in the role.

A post on the BBC show's Twitter account read: "Old friends and enemies reunite. The Power of the Doctor. Coming soon #DoctorWho"

Photos attached to the post showed Whittaker as the 13th Doctor with returning characters reprising their roles for the special including Ace (Sophie Aldred) and Tegan (Janet Fielding).

Other pictures featured Sacha Dhawan as the Master coming face to face with Doctor's companion Yaz, played by Mandip Gill, and another photo of a group of Cybermen.

Another post showed the Doctor, Yaz, Ace and Tegan in a larger group standing in an office and staring intently at something out of shot.

On Thursday, another post read: "'Beware the forces that mass against you... and their Master' The Power of the Doctor. Coming soon #DoctorWho"

It also included four pictures from the episode which showed Sacha Dhawan's Master looking schemingly at a toy figure dressed in a yellow top who appears to be Yaz, and another where he is being apprehended by guards or police.

John Bishop is set to return for the episode too, playing companion Dan Lewis.

After Whittaker completes her final engagement as the Doctor, she will be replaced in the role by the 14th Doctor - to be played by Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa.

Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall has promised that Whittaker's final episode, a special to mark the centenary of the BBC, will be “thrilling, epic and emotional”.

The Power of the Doctor is set to air on BBC One in October, although an exact date for it to be on screen has not yet been announced.
