Eamonn Holmes has undergone emergency surgery on his shoulder after falling down the stairs at home.

The 62-year-old former This Morning host – who only recently had an operation to relieve pressure on his sciatic nerves – fractured his shoulder in the accident and required further surgery.

A spokesperson for Holmes told The Express: “As a consequence of being laid low by major surgery, Eamonn suffered a fall at home a couple of weeks ago and had to undergo another operation.

“He’s naturally gutted by the setback, but the good news is the surgery on his shoulder went well. He’s now receiving fantastic care and rest."

"Sadly it means Eamonn is likely to need a longer period off TV than he first thought in order to get himself better and heal.

"But despite being in an awful lot of pain, he’s remaining positive and is looking forward to doing what he loves most and being back on TV and presenting on GB News just as soon as he can.”

The spokesman added: “Eamonn would like to say thank you for the wonderful care he has received from the NHS.

"He’d also like to thank everyone who has sent him get-well messages. Eamonn’s focus now is solely on resting, and getting better – which he is determined to do.”

The TV presenter announced in September he would be taking a leave of absence from GB News as a flare up in his back required urgent medical attention and doctors had advised him to rest.

Holmes has spoken openly about his battle with chronic pain in recent years and had an operation on his spine on Wednesday 28 September.

The former GMTV presenter – who is married to Loose Women star Ruth Langsford – has hosted the GB News show Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel alongside Isabel Webster since the start of the year.

He has three slipped discs in his back caused by a dislocated pelvis and has suffered ongoing problems for the past few years as a result, including chronic pain and insomnia.

Holmes has regular physiotherapy and steroid injections in a bid to combat the pain.

The TV star said his pelvis "mysteriously" dislocated in 2021 and put his back out of alignment as a result.

He said he now “can’t remember what life was like without the pain”.

Holmes underwent a double hip replacement in 2016. The surgery was carried out in a bid to tackle excruciating hip, leg and back pain he had secretly suffered for more than 20 years.
