EastEnders airs Kheerat twist in Gray storyline

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders has revealed that Kheerat Panesar has been lying to Gray Atkins about making peace.

The soap's Christmas Eve episode had some huge truths uncovered about the serial killer at last, starting with Kheerat admitting to Whitney Dean that he's been secretly watching Gray for months.

"Me and Chantelle, we had something," he admitted to her. "I don't know what you call it. We never even kissed. I loved her and I was helping her leave Gray."

When Whitney accused him of doing "absolutely nothing" about his suspicions for a full year, Kheerat explained that he tried to speak out but nobody believed him.

"I've been staying close for an entire year," he insisted. "I have been keeping an eye, and yet I still have no evidence that he was abusive."

"I do," Whitney revealed. "I've got evidence. We've got him, Kheerat."

Whitney then showed him the posts on the domestic violence survivors' forum from Chantelle, and as Kheerat read the accounts she'd posted, he wept.

"I should have realised it," Kheerat said. "I should have seen it. Maybe if I did, she might still be here?"

Whitney then put it all together: "He killed her, didn't he?"

"I think he did," Kheerat answered.

However, Kheerat acknowledged that posts didn't prove Gray killed Chantelle – they proved that he is a bully, controller and an abuser, but not necessarily a killer.

"The police said it was an accident and they are not going to overturn that without concrete evidence," he pointed out. "And Gray's a lawyer, he knows exactly what's going to stand up in court… I've not waited this long for him to get away with it!"

Whitney agreed not to go to the police yet, but warned Kheerat "there is no way" she is going to "let history repeat itself" with Chelsea.

"I am going to stop that wedding," she vowed.

At that very moment, Chelsea Fox was sharing a traumatic story with Gray about one Christmas Eve where she saw her mum Denise's ex-husband Owen Turner hit her during an argument.

Gray grew more uncomfortable as Chelsea recounted the details from that awful Christmas, then jumped up with "a surprise" for her to change the subject: a pair of earrings that once belonged to Chantelle.

With the clock ticking down until the Christmas Day wedding, what is Whitney's next move?
