Former EastEnders actor Paul Nicholas, who played Gavin Sullivan from 2015 to 2016, has revealed that he'd be keen on reprising his role as the evil ex-husband of Kathy Beale and biological father of Sharon Mitchell.

"Oh yeah, I'd go back," confirmed Paul, when asked by The Mirror about a potential return. "You never know, I might come creeping through the door one day saying, 'Hello princess.'"

Gavin did many despicable things during his time on Albert Square – including keeping Kathy and the Mitchells hostage with fireworks on Halloween, torturing Phil Mitchell so Phil would start drinking again, and blackmailing Claudette Hubbard (before she bashed him round the head with a candlestick).

And Paul confesses that he looks back on playing the villain with nothing but joy.

"It was hilarious really. Apparently I'd been living with [Kathy] in South Africa – though of course everyone believed her to be dead! Gavin was a real nasty piece of work. Horrid. He was controlling with Kathy, kidnapped her when she wouldn't play ball, killed his sister and oh yes, turned out to be Sharon's real dad!"

It wouldn't be easy for Gavin to make a return to Walford. Last we saw of him, he was being carted off by the police after killing his own sister by pushing her from a window of a big manor house.

Plus, Kathy has enough on her plate – her step-grandson Steven is dead, and she's oblivious that her rapist James Willmott-Brown is wreaking revenge on the place that saw him banged up three decades ago.

EastEnders continues on Monday, September 25 at 8pm on BBC One.
