Yahoo News EastEnders and Emma Barton pay tribute to Nicky Henson following his death
EastEnders star and Strictly Come Dancing finalist Emma Barton has paid tribute to her former co-star Nicky Henson following the news of his death.
It was confirmed today (December 16) that the actor had passed away at the age of 74 nearly 20 years after he was diagnosed with cancer, with a statement from the actor's family reading (via BBC News): "Nicky Henson has died after a long disagreement with cancer."
Alongside roles in Fawlty Towers, A Touch of Frost and Minder, Henson was known for playing Honey Mitchell's (Barton) father Jack Edwards on EastEnders, and the BBC One soap was among those paying tribute to the star on social media.
"We're so sorry to hear the sad news," the soap shared on its official Instagram page, alongside an image of Henson in character.
The soap's tribute also included a message from actress Emma Barton, who played his on-screen daughter, which read: "Truly devastated to hear about the passing of my beautiful TV Dad.
"A wonderfully talented actor, a true gentleman, not forgetting his terrifically wicked sense of humour. Thinking of his family."
Emma also added another note in the comments, writing: "Rest in peace my darling Nicky."

Henson made his first appearance on Albert Square back in 2006 before leaving again later that year. It was later confirmed in May 2010 that the fictional narrowboat owner had died off-screen in a car accident.
Across his career, Henson also featured in zany sitcom Fawlty Towers and, more recently, ITV period drama Downton Abbey. In terms of movies, he was perhaps best known for his roles in Vera Drake and Syriana.
EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
