EastEnders is planning a tragic ending for Lola Pearce, it has been revealed.
It was recently reported that Danielle Harold would be following numerous regular cast in departing the soap in the coming months — including Danny Dyer (Mick Carter), Ricky Champ (Stuart) and Dayle Hudson (Peter).
According to The Sun, Lola will be killed off the BBC One soap after she is diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.
Digital Spy understands that this storyline has been planned for quite some time and is scheduled to begin airing later in the year. Producers have been working closely with brain tumour charities throughout the research process as well.
Lola's tragic diagnosis could spur a reconciliation with lost love Jay Brown, though he is currently in a relationship with Honey Mitchell.
A spokesperson for EastEnders has been contacted for comment on this storyline.
Harold did confirm her departure from EastEnders earlier this month at the British Soap Awards during a chat with the Daily Star.
"I want to work on other things and play other characters. I can't wait to get out there and see what's possible. I'd love to do a drama — something with a beginning, middle and an end to the story," she said.
"I want to do something completely different to soaps. I'd love to get back to doing some films as well."
Lola returned to the soap in 2019, alongside Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden). Her return to Walford has included a tumultuous reunion and later split from childhood sweetheart Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick).
Lola also got together with teacher Isaac Baptiste until he left Walford earlier in 2022 to take care of his mum Sheree in Trinidad.
EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
