EastEnders star Samantha Womack shares update after breast cancer diagnosis

EastEnders actress Samantha Womack's has shared developments in her continued battle with breast cancer, revealing she's now resting at home after surgery.

Sharing the update via Instagram yesterday (August 18), the Ronnie Mitchell star wrote next to a photo of a bowl of soup: "Recuperating after breast cancer op. My love makes me turmeric and ginger in the morning and homemade butternut squash soup in the evening. Feeling loved and grateful [three heart emojis]."

The Big Breakfast's Denise Van Outen responded with a message of support: "Sending you massive love [heart emoji]", while TV presenter Gaby Roslin and The Witchfinder actor Tuwaine Barrett added: "Sending you so much love [four heart emojis]" and "Thinking of you Sam – sending all my love" respectively.

Fellow EastEnders actress Emma Barton simply shared "Love you" alongside a series of heart emojis, whilst Tamzin Outhwaite commented: "Sending lots of love and positive energy".

Two messages of fan support read: "So sorry you're having to deal with this. Get well soon" and "Sending love and wishing you all the best for your recovery Sam".

Womack, who represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1991, announced her cancer diagnosis less than two weeks ago.

She did so by sharing a throwback photo of herself alongside the late great Olivia Newton-John.

"This was the most magical of evenings," her caption began. "Olivia and [her daughter] Chloe had come to see Grease in London and we had dinner together afterwards. I was so excited and in awe, she was my childhood. I now start my own battle with this disease and am left feeling deeply moved."

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One, with some episodes airing on BBC Two during summer sporting events. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
