Elton John's Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour has become the highest grossing tour of all time.

According to Billboard, the music legend's lengthy and ongoing tour has so far grossed over $800 million, becoming the first tour to pass that figure.

With the latest takings, the Yellow Brick Road has surpassed Ed Sheeran's The Divide Tour's total of $776 million.

John began his final tour in 2018 and is set to run until July 2023 after COVID-19 saw performances cancelled across 2020 and 2021.

On the mammoth tour, John has played 278 shows across the world so far but by the time he is finished, the total will go past 300.

John's last ever UK shows are also set for later this year and includes stops in Liverpool, Birmingham and a two week residency at London's O2 Arena.

John's final UK show will be his headline performance at Glastonbury where he will close the festival on the Sunday night.

On being announced as a Glastonbury headliner, John said in a statement: "I couldn’t be more excited to be headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury 2023 and celebrate the greatest festival in the world!!"

He added: "Every week I speak to new artists on my radio show and Glastonbury is often cited as a pivotal moment in launching their careers - the festival’s genuine, enthusiastic support for the best emerging talent is something I’ve long admired. Thank you for having me Emily Eavis for my final UK show - it’s going to be emotional."

So far, John is the only confirmed name for 2023's Glastonbury but it was recently rumoured that hard rock legends Guns n Roses would be headlining after bassist Duff McKagan said on his radio show: "Glastonbury is going to be iconic for us."

Guns n Roses are already confirmed to be playing BST Hyde Park the week after Glastonbury.
