Emilia Fox: daughter won't be following in family footsteps because she doesn't believe acting is a job

Emilia Fox has revealed that her family's thespian dynasty could be coming to an end, after her seven-year-old daughter refused to accept that acting is a job. 

The Silent Witness star is the daughter of actor Edward Fox and actress Joanna David. Her younger brother Freddie is also an actor, as are her cousins Jack, Laurence and Lydia. Her uncle is the actor James Fox. 

Freddie and Edward are currently appearing in the Oscar Wilde play 'An Ideal Husband' on the West End, playing father and son the Earl of Caversham and the Viscount Goring. 

Fox - who gave birth to seven-year-old Rose in November 2010 - said the youngster will "categorically not" follow in their footsteps.

Appearing on the Graham Norton Show, the actress said: "The other day when she was telling us about being born, going to school, going to university and getting a job, one of the family asked her if she would go to drama school and her reply was, 'acting is not a job, it's an activity'.

"I had to agree with her."

Also on Friday night's show was fellow actor Stephen Mangan who admitted to being a lazy parent when it came to bedtime stories.

The former Green Wing star said: "I've recorded a lot of audio books so we had a lot of fairy tales on CD and I am ashamed to say that with our first child, I would press 'play' and back out of the room.

"I wonder if he thought it odd that every story started with, 'Read by Stephen Mangan'."
