Emmerdale's Jacob Gallagher sparks turning point for Leyla

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Jacob Gallagher has sparked a big turning point for Leyla Cavanagh in Emmerdale.

This week has seen Jacob deciding to put his exit plans on hold to support his mum Leyla following her overdose, yet the whole family have been alarmed by her decision not to seek help.

In Tuesday's episode, both Jacob and Leyla's husband Liam were horrified when Leyla decided she'd go cold turkey by staying with a friend rather than go to rehab.

Jacob was furious when Leyla complained at the shop that nobody was showing any "faith" she can kick her addiction without professional help.

"Faith? Are you joking," Jacob raged.

Jacob then stunned his mum by showing her a distressing photo from the hospital where she was hooked up to feeding and breathing tubes while in a coma.

"That's you. Heart failing. Comatose. Nearly dead," he told her. "That's what me and Liam went through. That there."

When Leyla refused to look at the photo, Jacob asked plainly if she loved her family — and, if so, how could she turn down the help she so desperately needs?

"Swear to me, you'll never ever put us through that again," he demanded.

Leyla finally relented and later returned home to apologise to Liam because she'd been a "mess" in the hospital.

"No-one deserves to go through that, especially you," Leyla told her husband.

Liam reinforced to Leyla that she was the one who didn't deserve to go through it and that's why she needed to get help.

"This is an illness like any other," Liam explained to her.

Leyla acknowledged: "It's got me. I admit it: I'm an addict."

Liam assured his wife he loves her, as she promised to go to rehab "for as long as it takes" to save their marriage. The couple embraced as the episode ended.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
