Game of Thrones might be over, but we may have only just begun to explore George RR Martin's fantasy world on television.

A number of spin-offs are in development at HBO, with one already greenlit set to star Naomi Watts, Poldark actor Josh Whitehouse, Fantastic Beasts' Jamie Campbell Bower and Miranda Richardson.

Written by Jane Goldman, this currently untitled show takes place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones and will explore Westerosi history and the true origin of the White Walkers.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Oscar-nominated actress Richardson gave some more hints at what to expect from the prequel.

"I have loved the storytelling in that series [Game of Thrones] and the wish and the will is to continue that, [but] with a totally different set of elements, [and] people," she said.

"The craftsmen are the same – there is a base team that is the same and their work has been phenomenal throughout. I'm just thrilled to be a part of it."

Last month, HBO overseer Bob Greenblatt explained that he's keen not to "kill the golden goose" by commissioning too many Thrones spin-offs.

"There's a prequel in production," he confirmed. "But, just a pilot so that we can see if it has all the goods and is it worthy of going forward. We're just trying to be really thoughtful about how to expand this universe, if it makes sense."

Miranda Richardson stars in Good Omens, launching tomorrow (Friday, May 31) on Amazon Prime Video.
