AS Kendal Calling has been and gone for another year, we looked back through our archives at photos from past years and all the fun from the fields.

Kendal Calling is a music festival, which despite the name is now held annually at Lowther Deer Park near Penrith.

However, when the festival started in 2006, Kendal Calling was originally held in Abbot Hall Park by Kendal Castle.

The festival has grown from a two day festival which held a capacity of 900 with a singular circus big top being the base for most of the performance in 2006.

Now, it's a four-day festival with a capacity of over 25,000 people.

There are numerous different quirky stages across the site now.

Some of the more notable artists who have performed are Blondie, Pendulum, Stereophonics, Doves, Tinie Temper, Dizzee Rascal, James, Mumford & Sons, Calvin Harris and British Sea Power.

In 2010 Kendal Calling was awarded the Best Small UK Festival Award at the UK Festival Awards, as voted by the public.

Kendal Calling has also won the industry award 'Best Small Festival' at the LIVE UK awards 2011.

In 2020 and 2021, Kendal had to be cancelled due to the pandemic and the after effect that lockdowns had on the festival.

However, it was back in 2022 for a fantastic year.

The festival, like many others, has struggled with the amount of tents that get left behind after everyone departs.

In 2022, the orgnaisers created the memo 'leave nothing but memories' to encourage people to take everything home with them and decrease the amount of waste produced. The festival annouced after the weekend that over 98 per cent of tents were taken home.
