Yahoo News First-look at Nikki's love interest in Silent Witness
Dr Nikki Alexander had it rough on Silent Witness last year (that whole being buried alive thing and all), so fans will be quite pleased to see that she'll actually have some romance in series 21.
Emilia Fox's trusted investigator gets a proper relationship throughout the upcoming episodes with a US politician called Matt Garcia, to be played by Hooten & the Lady favourite Michael Landes.

"In this series you see Nikki begin a relationship with the US ambassador to London, Matt Garcia, who is played by Michael Landes," Emilia said. "It is significant for many reasons, most of all because it is the first proper relationship we have seen her in for many years.
"Particularly since Harry, with their will they/won't they relationship. You see Nikki want to commit to a relationship at last and it is in the aftermath of looking at life and her relationships post what happened to her in Mexico.
"It also enables Nikki to move forward from the trauma and to finally find happiness in her personal life. Who knows for how long it will be, but it was lovely to play Nikki having something to smile about again."
But it won't be all romance for Nikki! The Lyell team will be investigating five grisly cases beginning with 'Moment of Surrender' next week, which sees a colleague of Nikki's, Sally Vaughn (Emma Fielding), suddenly disappear.
When the team surmise that Sally's partner David Cannon (Julian Rhind-Tutt) may have been involved, they invite the suspect into the Lyell Centre to keep close watch.
In subsequent two-part stories, Nikki will probe the hacking of a hospital database in 'Duty of Candour', the murder of a US diplomat in 'A Special Relationship' (Oh no! Please don't let it be Matt!), abuses in assisted living centres in 'One Day' and a Christmas Day shooting spree in 'Family'.
"While the stories of Silent Witness normally stand alone in a series, we do have some continuity for the regulars to follow due to dealing with the events that happened in Mexico but each crime story still takes the regulars into a different world," Emilia teased.
Silent Witness returns next Monday (January 8) and Tuesday (January 9) on BBC One.
