Note: This article contains spoilers from The Flash’s 100th episode, which aired on Tuesday (December 4).

The Flash executive producer and showrunner Todd Helbing has revealed who he wanted – but couldn't get – for the show's 100th episode.

The episode in question, 'What's Past is Prologue', saw Barry (Grant Gustin) and his daughter Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) travelling back through the show's history to collect items needed to defeat Cicada (Chris Klein).

In the past, Nora and Barry encountered Eobard Thawne / the Reverse Flash (Tom Cavanagh), and Nora discovers that Thawne murdered her grandmother.

Once back in the present, Nora speeds off to 2049 to see Thawne, who is imprisoned in Iron Heights. This means that Barry's enemy, the evil speedster, has returned and has been working with Nora all along.

However, Helbing has admitted that he wanted to bring back a couple of other characters. He told EW: "Originally, we had Eddie Thawne [Rick Cosnett] in it.

"It’s hard with episodes like this when you have 42 minutes to tell the story to get everybody back. There are scheduling conflicts. I think we would’ve loved to have a longer scene with [Teddy Sears] for sure.

"We would’ve liked to get Tom Felton back, that would’ve been great. There were a lot of people that we wanted that were on the board that you ultimately can’t do just because of time. Patty Spivot [Shantel VanSanten] would’ve been great."

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy last month, Felton explained that he only ever signed a one-season deal, but insisted that he'd be keen to return to The Flash in future.

"Absolutely, yeah. I miss it. I miss those guys terribly, yeah. I miss Grant [Gustin, who plays Barry Allen / The Flash], and all the team there. I had a great time there in Vancouver for nine months. Yeah, I say bring back Julian!"
