Former Hollyoaks star Will Mellor explains why he didn't return for show's 25th anniversary

Former Hollyoaks star Will Mellor has revealed why he didn't return for the soap's 25th anniversary episodes last month.

Mellor played James 'Jambo' Bolton on the Channel 4 soap from 1995 to 1998, appearing in its first ever episode.

Jambo left the village to start a new life in Anglesey and he hasn't been seen since (apart from appearing to friend Tony Hutchinson as a vision in 2004).

Speaking to New magazine, Mellor said that the reason he didn't return for the soap's anniversary was simply because of scheduling.

"We couldn't make the dates work," he explained. "But I'm really grateful for Hollyoaks, it was a massive part of my life."

Last month, Mellor's former co-star Nick Pickard (Tony Hutchinson) admitted he'd love to see Jambo back in Chester, following the return of Jeremy Edwards as Kurt Benson.

"It’s been great having Jeremy back but I'd love Jambo to return for a few episodes too," he said.

"We talked about it last year and hoped it might work out for the 25th anniversary, but it's finding the time and fitting it in as Will is so busy. But he'd love to do it."

Fingers crossed one day!

Hollyoaks currently airs new episodes from Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Fridays at 7pm on E4.
