Four Weddings sequel: Lily James and Alicia Vikander confirmed to star in Comic Relief spin-off

Lily James and Alicia Vikander are set to join the original cast of Four Weddings and a Funeral for the Comic Relief sequel.

Screenwriter Richard Curtis, who has also provided the script for the special short film, said that he was “delighted” to confirm their involvement.

“I am delighted to finally be able to reveal that Lily James and Alicia Vikander will appear as our very special guests in One Red Nose Day and a Wedding,” he said.

“I can’t wait for audiences to tune in and discover what’s happening to our characters and their families 25 years on.”

The 12-minute film picks up 25 years after the original, and marks the first time that the rom-com’s cast have reunited on screen since Four Weddings’ 1994 debut.

A new clip released by Comic Relief in anticipation of tonight’s premiere shows Hugh Grant reprising the role of Charles, as he waits nervously outside the church as father of the bride.

Kristen Scott Thomas’ Fiona then wishes him luck before heading inside to take her seat for the ceremony.

Andie MacDowell will appear as Charles’ love interest Carrie, and revealed earlier this week that reuniting with her cast mates left her feeling “teary-eyed.”

John Hannah, Rowan Atkinson, David Haig and Anna Chancellor are also set to star in the sequel, which has been directed by Mike Newell.

One Red Nose Day and a Wedding will air as part of the Red Nose Day telethon from 7pm on BBC One tonight.
