Yahoo News Freddie Pring: 20-year-old man dies in fall from Magaluf hotel balcony
Tributes have poured in for a young rugby player who fell to his death from a hotel balcony while holidaying with friends.
Freddie Pring, 20, was found at about 3am on Friday morning in Magaluf, on the Spanish island of Majorca, but sadly later died at the scene.
The Minehead Barbarians RFC player, from Watchet, Somerset, had been staying in a room with friends at the Wave House hotel.
Loved ones and friends changed their profile pictures on social media to the Minehead Barbarians badge in tribute to the talented sportsman, who was also known as Freddie MacVicar.
The rugby club said in a Facebook post: “It is with deepest sadness that we have to inform you that one of our own, Freddie Pring, has been involved in an accident abroad and has passed away.
“There is no more information at this time so please don’t ask. Please give the family space at this time.
“Our love and condolences reach out to everyone that knew Freddie.”
Commenting below the post, Jason Hurley said it was “absolute gutting news”, adding: “You’re a great man with a bubbly personality and a massive heart. We were looking forward to getting you back.”
George Colton Rowe paid tribute to his skill on the pitch, saying: “Tragic news. My thoughts go to his family, friends and all of you at Minehead Barbarians.
“He was a cracking player to play against and certainly caused us a lot problems when we played against you! Rest in peace Freddie.”
Another fellow sportsman, Tedward Quay said: “Incredibly sad news, cracking rugby player, and a top lad, thoughts and prayers from Wiveliscombe RFC.”
Sam Waterman added: “Absolutely devastating news. Heartfelt wishes to the family. An exceptionally gifted and bright young man taken way too soon. RIP Freddie.”
Shauna Marie Davies said: “I remember Freddie from college he was a good one all my love and thoughts go out to you all and Freddie’s family.”
Caroline Norman added: “So so sad, heartfelt condolences to all the family, words don’t express how tragic this is such a lovely young man taken too soon.”
A spokesperson from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are assisting the family of a British man who has died in Magaluf, and we are in contact with the local authorities.”
