A FUNDRAISING effort which saw lampposts in Berechurch adorned with poppies and a Tommy soldier raised more than £200.

Dave Harris, a Berechurch councillor in Colchester, champions the annual effort to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

Mr Harris explained he feels the campaign particularly resonates with Colcestrian’s due to the garrison town’s deeply rooted military history.

He joined the Royal British Legion’s Colchester secretary Jackie Mason on Friday to hand over the £235 his efforts managed to raise.

Mr Harris said: “It was a pleasure to raise money for them. I am so pleased to support the Royal British Legion.

“These are tough times we are living in and it’s important to support others where we can.”

He added: “Some people sponsored in memory of a loved one, while others did on behalf of organisations such as Shrub End Residents Association.”
