Angry parents have started a campaign to save a teacher suspended for allegedly calling pupils "chicken s***s".

The male teacher from Gable Hall School in Corringham, Essex, was sent home following an emergency assembly where he also allegedly referred to pupils as “retards” and “cowards”.

School officials took action after a social media post reported what the teacher had said when addressing Year 11 pupils over their poor behaviour, according to Echo newspaper.

But some parents have now written a letter to authorities demanding the teacher be reinstated.

A former pupil said it would be “an absolute loss” if the teacher was sacked.

Another local resident added on social media she was "at a loss how this poor fantastic teacher is being suspended".

Gable Hall School headmaster Ceri Evans is expected to announce the result of an internal investigation into the incident this week.

He said: “It has come to my attention that a member of my teaching staff has made derogatory comments to the cohort of year 11 students.

"As a school we do not tolerate or accept such behaviour.

“A formal investigation is now underway which has been assigned to a senior leader within the Ortu trust.

“The teacher is suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

“The decision of the investigation will be implemented by myself with the support of the governing body.”
