If you didn't know from the novel of the film adaption starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, it's about a man who has a weird condition that makes him randomly move through time, as he tries to build and maintain a romantic relationship with his significant other.

It's no surprise that Steven Moffat has written this, as he covered similar themes in his Doctor Who days through The Doctor and River Song, who were both time-travelers who kept meeting at different points in their respective timelines.

In fact, he previously admitted how the novel was an inspiration for Doctor Who, although he referenced a different episode when he spoke about it.

"I read Audrey Niffenegger's The Time Traveler's Wife many years ago, and I fell in love with it," he said. "In fact, I wrote a Doctor Who episode called 'The Girl In the Fireplace' as a direct response to it.

"When, in her next novel, Audrey had a character watching that very episode, I realised she was probably on to me. All these years later, the chance to adapt the novel itself, is a dream come true."

The Time Traveler's Wife will stream on HBO Max.
