Gareth Southgate swapped the England manager’s dugout for a City trading floor as he joined dozens of celebrities raising money for good causes including the Standard’s food waste charity partner The Felix Project.

The Three Lions boss took to the phones at City brokers ICAP on its annual fundraising day alongside fellow football legends Pat Jennings, Sir Trevor Brooking, Bob Wilson and Roy Hodgson.

They were joined by actors Joely Richardson, Olivia Colman, Naomie Harris, Felicity Kendal and Simon Pegg, Spandau Ballet’s Tony Hadley, The Who’s Roger Daltrey and former England Test cricketer Monty Panesar, who is an ambassador for The Felix Project.

The rookie dealers were executing trades worth millions of pounds with banks all over the world. ICAP and its brokers will donate all revenue and commission made on Thursday to a select group of charities, including the Felix Project.

Panesar said: “I am delighted to be at the 2021 ICAP Charity Day, representing an organisation close to my heart, The Felix Project. Funds raised today will help the charity grow their education programme, supporting the next generation to better understand the impacts of food waste.”

The ICAP event started in 1993 and has raised over £150 million supporting more than 2,600 projects. The company hosts similar fundraisers in each of its 26 offices around the world.

Previous attendees have included Prince Charles, Denzel Washington, Simon Cowell, Sir Elton John and Boris Johnson.

Southgate said: “This is the third time I have attended the ICAP Charity Day. It’s a fantastic day which raises a lot of money for some really great causes, including The Prince’s Trust, who I’ve supported for over 15 years.

“The Prince’s Trust exists to offer that vital support to young people across the UK, and in my role as Ambassador I am proud to play a small part in helping them achieve that.”
