ITV's detective drama McDonald & Dodds is coming back for a second series (well, the first series was only two episodes so does that really count?), and they have released a solid line-up of familiar names to round out the cast for the first episode.

The case that Tala Gouveia and Jason Watkins' detectives will have to solve this time involves a hot air balloon trip that ends in tragedy.

They will be assisted by Gavin & Stacey star and Ken Bruce impersonator Rob Brydon, who plays an Air Incident Investigation Agency worker named Roy.

The four suspects of murder will be played by Sherlock star Rupert Graves, Spandau Ballet and EastEnders star Martin Kemp, Holby City and 'I'm Not Scared' hitmaker Patsy Kensit, and Emmerdale alumni Cathy Tyson.

Filming has already begun on the second series, although it doesn't currently have a release window. We expect it to come out next year though.

At the time of the second series announcement, ITV's drama commissioner Huw Kennair Jones said: "We're delighted with the audience reaction to the first series of McDonald & Dodds. The two characters couldn't be further apart, which is what makes the series so intriguing to watch.

"They shouldn't have chemistry, but they do, and they work brilliantly in partnership which is testimony to Robert's [Murphy] script and Tala and Jason for bringing McDonald & Dodds to life."

Viewers enjoyed the first episode of McDonald & Dodds for being different to other police dramas, and for having strong chemistry between its two leads.
