Great British Menu – Champion of Champion spoilers follow.

Great British Menu – Champion of Champion has crowned Spencer Metzger, of The Ritz, as the winner of the 2022 series.

The BBC cookery competition concluded on Friday (April 1) on BBC Two with a star-studded special where famous faces judged main courses from the very best in British cuisine from Alexandra Palace in London.

This year's finale featured the likes of EastEnders legend Anita Dobson, Gavin and Stacey's Alison Steadman, Mastermind presenter Clive Myrie, celebrity chef Tom Kerridge and a meeting for Bake Off's past and present judges Pru Leith and Dame Mary Berry.

The regular judges Andi Oliver and Michael Caines were also on hand to deliver the final verdict when Metzger served a rarity for Great British Menu by presenting two courses through to the finals.

The theme of the night was to honour 100 Years of British Broadcast, so Metzger came up with fish course 'Be Careful What You Fish For' – served inside a microscope made of recyclable material that contained a hidden message, in honour of Sherlock.

His second submission, 'First Impressions', was an ode to the BBC's TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

Prue Leith praised Spencer's potatoes as "an absolute little bit of genius" while Mary Berry felt his fish was "cooked to perfection". High praise from the Bake Off icons!

"It was a perfect banquet dish, and the room clearly loved it. Spencer, a fully deserved winner," Tom Kerridge agreed.

After winning with his fish course, Spencer called the experience "one of the hardest things" he'd ever been though in his entire life.

"It was an amazing day, working with this lot (chefs), it was a true honour," he added.

Great British Menu airs on BBC Two.
