Grey's Anatomy is back for its 14th season later this month, but one doctor who won't be around is Leah Murphy.

Tessa Ferrer, who plays the character, looks set to be absent for the fresh run of episodes, according to TVLine.

This would mark the second time Leah has been written out. She was a series regular in season 10 before departing after the finale, but made a comeback during season 13.

Abigail Spencer has joined the cast as Dr Owen Hunt's sister Megan, in a role that was originally played by Bridget Regan.

Meanwhile, Dr. Eliza Minnick (Marika Dominczyk) is gone and there are no plans for her to return.

One character who is definitely not making a comeback despite some speculation is popular character Dr Callie Torres, played by Sara Ramirez.

"There are no plans at the moment. We love her and we miss her, [but] there's been no discussion of it," executive producer Debbie Allen recently told TVLine.

Giacomo Gianniotti, who plays Dr Andrew DeLuca on the medical drama, has teased that the new season is "funnier, sexier, lighter" after suggesting that the show has been "dreary for a long time".

Grey's Anatomy returns to ABC in the US on September 28. Sky Living airs the show in the UK, with a return date yet to be announced.
