Hawaii Five-0's season 10 premiere finally revealed the outcome of that big season 9 cliffhanger, and we had to say goodbye to one character in the process.

At the end of the previous season, one character was shot, the new season premiere unveiling Jorge Garcia's Jerry Ortega as the unfortunate victim.

It wasn't all bad news, however, as the character managed to survive – though he decided in a change of lifestyle that meant leaving the task force.

Although he has now exited the show, it seems that Ortega – who joined the show in season 4 – could return to the fold at some point.

"I'm grateful for my time on Hawaii Five-0," Garcia said in a statement (via TVLine). "I loved getting to return to the islands, and creating a character that connected with so many people.

"Playing Jerry was a blast, and I look forward to popping in again to play with my TV ohana."

Showrunner Peter M Lenkov added: "Jorge was a breath of fresh air from the very moment he joined the cast, and fans immediately took to Jerry’s quirkiness as well as his kindness.

"There will always be a place for Jorge and Jerry on Hawaii Five-0, and while we obviously wish Jorge the very best, we will sincerely miss him very much."

Meanwhile, it was recently confirmed that Hawaii Five-0 would be crossing-over with fellow 80's reboot Magnum PI.

Hawaii Five-0 airs on CBS.
