Henry Cavill posts moving tribute video to his shaved moustache

Certain goodbyes are so painful, only the healing power of Sarah McLachlan will do.

We must, hard as it may be, deal with the loss of Henry Cavill‘s moustache. The actor took to Instagram to announce that his upper-lip friend had bitten the dust, while memorialising its brief but vibrant life with McLachlan’s famous “I Will Remember You”.

Of course, Cavill’s moustache managed to cause a small crisis at Warner Bros. Studios: when the actor was required to return for Justice League reshoots, Paramount insisted that the moustache that had been grown in the meantime for Cavill’s role in Mission: Impossible – Fallout could not be shaven. No matter the circumstances.

Which left Warner Bros. scrambling to digitally remove the offending facial hair in post-production, resulting in some less-than-desirable shots of Superman with a disconcertingly blurred top lip.

“Hello, don’t be alarmed. It’s me, Henry Cavill. Sometime superhero and former secret agent,” the actor says in the Instagram video. “But now, completely clean-shaven. I know, it’s hard to recognise me without KingStache. Sometimes I even have trouble recognising myself.”

"It's hard for me to admit: this is not CGI. He's really gone. I can tell you this though, I will remember him, always."

As Cavill added to his post: “#ShavedButNotForgotten”.
