Holby City legend Hugh Quarshie has landed his next TV role since leaving the BBC One series last year. This time, turning his talents to a "glossy, high-stakes family drama".

Announced by ITV, Riches will follow the charismatic and formidable Stephen Richards, a self-made millionaire whose life is turned upside down when a stroke forces two sides of his family together.

Written and created by How To Get Away with Murder and Four Weddings and a Funeral's Abby Ajayi, Riches will see Quarshie star alongside Deborah Ayorinde, Ted Lasso's Sarah Niles, Luther's Hermione Norris, and Downton Abbey's Brendan Coyle.

Adeyinka Akinrinade, Ola Orebiyi, CJ Beckford, Nneka Okoye and Emmanuel Imani also star.

Quarshie – who played Ric Griffin in Holby – takes on the lead Stephen, while Niles will play his second wife, Claudia.

"A smart businessman, with an undeniably ruthless streak, Stephen Richards is one of the UK's most successful Black businessmen," the synopsis teases.

"He's built his renowned business empire, Flair & Glory, through hard work and his entrepreneurial skills, making it the market leader in black hair and beauty, but his rise to the top hasn't been easy."

Things soon fall apart for Stephen after he suffers a stroke, bringing his second wife, their two children, and his estranged children from his first marriage together.

"As his life hangs in the balance, his different sets of children are about to collide," the synopsis continues. "With secrets and lies rising to the surface and the Richards empire at stake, it's going to be a complicated family reunion..."

Calling Riches "a love letter to Black London", creator Abby Ajayi said: "It has been thrilling to create the Richards' family and celebrate their opulence, their ambition, and their immigrant grit.

"Our talented ensemble of actors are a joy and I'm excited to be partnering with Amazon and ITV, working alongside the powerhouses of Greenacre Films and Monumental Television to bring this show to the screen."

Riches, for which a release date remains unconfirmed, will air on ITV. Amazon Studios will air the drama outside the UK after broadcast.

Holby City airs on Tuesdays on BBC One.
