Hollyoaks: Jamelia to guest star in special episode

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks has announced that TV presenter and music superstar Jamelia will be guest starring in a special episode.

The former Loose Women panellist will appear in the E4 first-look episode airing on Thursday, September 9 as part of Channel 4's Black to Front Project, highlighting Black talent in front of and behind the camera.

Hollyoaks' contribution to this important day will be an episode featuring an entirely Black cast telling the story of the Deveraux family and their friends reuniting for a BBQ on Walter's birthday.

Jamelia has been cast as Walter's family friend Sharon Bailey, the daughter of brand new Hollyoaks character Pearl (former Coronation Street actress Dawn Hope).

Sharon and Martine Deveraux mischievously plan to get their parents together during the picnic, but the outing is a chance for Martine to confide in a friend about her cancer ordeal.

Before the episode is over, the 'Superstar' singer will be joining the Deverauxs in a dance number for Walter's special day.

"Filming Hollyoaks has been the most fantastic experience," the singer and presenter said. "I've felt like I've been around family, I've felt so comfortable and so joyous. It's just been amazing. I can't believe this is supposed to be work."

Jamelia previously guest starred in an unrelated Hollyoaks episode in 2003, and has had other notable acting roles in Doctors and Death in Paradise in more recent years.

Hollyoaks has previously confirmed that its 'Black to Front' episode will also feature the debut of newcomer Tomi Ade as Felix Westwood's estranged son DeMarcus.

Hollyoaks airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4. Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
