Hollyoaks' Verity joins her dad Edward's evil plot against Tony Hutchinson

Hollyoaks spoilers for Monday, May 18's first-look instalment follow.

Verity Hutchinson has been manipulated into joining her father Edward's evil plot against her brother Tony in Hollyoaks.

Sinister doctor Edward (Joe McGann) has been trying to trick his son into believing he has a brain tumour, going so far as to take him into the operating theatre to make the scam more realistic.

However, Edward seemingly made a giant miscalculation when he revealed his plan to daughter Verity (Eva O'Hara). In Monday's (May 18) first-look episode, the fall-out from his decision played out.

With Edward having broken off his fling with Marnie Nightingale (Lysette Anthony) so he could devote himself fully to winning back Diane (Alex Fletcher), Verity threatened to throw a wrench into his plans.

Verity couldn't stand by any longer when her dad convinced Diane to let him move back in under the proviso that he'd be helping to take care of Tony (Nick Pickard).

In a heated confrontation, Edward tried to convince his daughter to keep quiet by reminding her that he saved her life on the day her mother died mysteriously.

When Verity still refused to go along with him, he finally bought her silence by promising to give her her mother's ring.

"I love you, dad," Verity told Edward as she hugged him. "I won't say anything. Only if you promise to leave Tony and Diane alone."

Edward agreed, but had no intention of living up to his promise. Joe McGann recently hinted to Digital Spy that Edward's daughter could very well be his downfall in the end.

"It could be Verity, it could be Tony, or it could be the situations that Edward puts himself in," he explained to us.

"But Edward's confidence is so high. He believes in his own abilities. Some of his scheming is not planned. Some of it he comes up with very quickly and then he lives with the consequences.

"Between Edward and Verity, there's a very touching scene we did, where we go back over the crash that killed her mother. He reminds her of how much he loved her mother and that he saved Verity's life.

"That's very much marking somebody's card – saying: 'You shouldn't tell the truth about me, because you owe me'. He reckons he's got Verity in control and reckons everyone else is less smart than him."

Hollyoaks airs new episodes on Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look episodes at 7pm on E4. Classic episodes, titled Hollyoaks Favourites, air on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 7pm on E4.
