Brenda Fricker, the woman who played the beloved “pigeon lady” in Home Alone 2, has given a radio interview nearly three decades after the film.

In the 1992 comedy sequel, the Irish actor played a homeless woman who lives in Central Park and who befriends young Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin).

On whether she’s still in touch with her co-star, Fricker told Ray D’Arcy’s Radio 1 Show: “No I don’t [hear from Macaulay], I worry about him but I’m not in touch with him.”

Speaking about how she would be spending Christmas this year, she added: “I’m 75 now, and I would be lying if I said it would be a nice and happy Christmas because I’m old and I live alone. It can be very dark.”

Fricker continued: “I turn the phone off and put the blinds down. I do pre-record some good programmes and I have my dog and I get myself through it that way.

“I don’t want to be sounding kind of negative but it is a different kind of Christmas, that’s all. While I don’t find Christmas all that difficult, what I do find difficult is New Year’s Eve.”

Fricker’s character made headlines earlier this month, after social media users noticed her uncanny resemblance to Piers Morgan. The Good Morning Britain presenter was forced to deny that he made a secret cameo in the film.

Saturday Night Live star Kristen Wiig also parodied the character on the latest episode of the sketch show.

Fricker retired from acting in 2014 after a six-decade career that saw her win the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role opposite Daniel Day-Lewis in the 1989 drama My Left Foot. She also played Megan Roach in Casualty for 25 years.
