Homeland season 8 spoilers follow!

Homeland's series finale was the "perfect ending" to the show, according to Digital Spy readers.

After 8 seasons, the espionage thriller finally came to an end in the US on April 26, sending fans away with a major twist of a conclusion.

Following a massive cliffhanger in the penultimate episode, the finale saw Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) decide against killing her mentor Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin).

We then time-jumped to a later point where Carrie was living in Russia with Yevgeny Gromov and sending intelligence to Saul – effectively replacing the asset she was forced to dispose of earlier in the episode.

After these dramatic closing scenes, we ran a poll and asked for your opinion on the finale, and a decisive 87% of you said it was the perfect ending to the series.

In other words, it went down a lot better than the final episode of Game of Thrones.

Earlier this month, Danes opened up about the "cathartic moment" she realised the show had come to an end, as she discussed filming her final scene.

"It's not a casual scene," she told The Guardian. "I think for me that was my cathartic moment when I realised it was over, because to say goodbye to it in its entirety is just too abstract and too huge. There were some tears – many of them – and we just hugged each other for a really long time."

Homeland airs on Channel 4 in the UK and Showtime in the US.
