Dramatic footage shows horror crash as motorcyclist is hit by car driving on wrong side of the road
Shocking dashcam footage shows the moment a motorbike rider was thrown into the air after being hit by a car driving on the wrong side of the road.
The 35-year-old motorcyclist was hit head-on by a driver who swerved across the road while going around a bend on a country road travelling at 70mph.
Horrifying footage released by South Yorkshire Police shows the Subaru veer on to the wrong side of the road as it comes around a blind left-hand bend near Sheffield, South Yorkshire in April last year.
As the Subaru driver fails to regain control, the video shows the motorcyclist brake, before the two collide head-on.
The collision throws the rider 15ft into the air, before hitting the ground and rolling along the road, coming to a stop around 100ft from the car and his bike.

The motorcyclist suffered a broken back, broken sternum and broken wrist in the smash.
Police released the horrifying footage of the crash as the driver of the car, Florian Pratt, was jailed for 16 months at Sheffield Crown Court after admitting causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was also banned from driving for three years.
Handing him the sentence, Judge David Dixon said: “Anyone in control of a high-powered sports type car needs to be aware of the vehicle’s capability and their own capability.
“You failed to take any account of the bend that led to this incident. The message must go out loud and clear. If you drive any vehicle you must drive with care.”
The motorcyclist’s Suzuki K7 sports bike was completely destroyed in the crash with the Subaru.
The rider, who is from Barnsley, has since credited the protective gear he was wearing at the time, including a full-leather, airbag suit which inflated on impact, with saving his life.
PC Phil Carson, roads policing constable from South Yorkshire Police, said: “In an ideal world, everyone would drive with care 100% of the time, but sadly this isn’t the case.
“The offending driver had no previous driving points or convictions, but on this occasion he demonstrated an exceptional lack of judgement.
“Thankfully, the motorcyclist was wearing a ... suit which activated and inflated as he was propelled off his bike. Without it, in a collision at this speed, he would most likely have died.”
He said police had released the footage to show how important wearing the right equipment is.
