Son charged with murder of hospital worker mother in west London home

A man has been charged with murdering his 62-year-old mother at a house in Greenford, West London.

Shanil Patel, 31, appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on 27 November.

Met Police officers were called at around 5pm on Wednesday 25 November to reports of a woman found injured at a home in Drew Gardens, Greenford.

Officers and London Ambulance Service workers attended the scene supported by a police helicopter.

Harsha Patel, who was found to be suffering from "head injuries", was pronounced dead at the scene almost 30 minutes later.

Residents in the area said the she lived with her partner and son.

Ms Patel's next of kin are aware and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course, the Metropolitan Police said.

Tributes have been paid by neighbours of Ms Patel. One woman said: “My heart goes out to [the family] it really does. They were a very nice quiet family."

Chief Superintendent Peter Gardner said: “This is a devastating incident and my thought are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

“I would like to reassure residents who will have noted a large police presence in the area last night and throughout today. These officers are there to assist with the investigation and also to provide local reassurance and support.”
