Innocent spoilers follow.

Innocent cast members Jamie Bamber and Priyanga Burford have predicted that the ITV show's second season ending will cause controversy.

The second season is being stripped across Monday to Thursday this week, as a schoolteacher played by Katherine Kelly attempts to clear her name from being accused of killing a student she was having an affair with.

The show has already created a buzz with its dual timeline format, with its cast now promising that the ending will definitely catch viewers by surprise.

"I think people are going to be talking about the resolution quite a bit," Burford – who plays Karen – recently told Digital Spy and other media.

Former Battlestar Galactica star Bamber also hinted that he didn't expect viewers to be unsatisfied, rather that the ending was designed to be thought-provoking.

"It's surprising and beautifully constructed. And I think it's satisfying because it's psychologically complex. It's not something that you can walk away from and think, 'Well, that's that'," he teased.

Bamber also recently spoke to us about the ways in which the structure of the show – in which real-time events are juxtaposed with a look back at the lead-up to the crime – have helped to engage viewers.

"It's a two-way journey because not only is it about a woman who was found guilty and has now been exonerated and having to reconstruct her life, and to go back to who she used to be and see if she can join the dots and become that person again and move on, there's also a new mystery to solve," he said.

"The murderer is still out there, so there is a genuine whodunnit going on. It's a double narrative."

Innocent continues on Wednesday, May 19. The final episode airs on Thursday.
