Star Trek: Into Darkness actress Alice Eve looks set to join the Marvel Universe after landing a role in season two of Marvel's Iron Fist.

Her role remains under wraps, according to Variety, with Eve joining new cast member Simone Missick and returning cast including Finn Jones, Jessica Henwick, Tom Pelphrey, Jessica Stroup and Sacha Dhawan.

"We are very excited to have an actress of Alice's stature join the cast of Marvel's Iron Fist," said Marvel's head of television and series executive producer Jeph Loeb.

"Her exceptional talent brings an intrigue and danger to her character unlike anyone else."

Eve is perhaps best known for playing Carol Marcus in 2013's Star Trek movie, and she also starred in the last series of Black Mirror for the episode 'Nosedive'.

The second season of Netflix's Iron Fist was confirmed back in July, despite the critical slating the first received.

Fans were on the whole much more enthusiastic about Danny Rand's exploits, the show becoming the most-binged premiere of 2017 (up to that point).

Jones also defended the show, arguing: "I think some of the reviews we saw were seeing the show through a very specific lens, and I think when the fans of the Marvel Netflix world and fans of the comic books view the show through the lens of just wanting to enjoy a superhero show, then they will really enjoy what they see.

"I think it's a fantastic show which is really fun and I think it stands up there with the other Defenders shows without a doubt."

Iron Fist airs on Netflix.
