James Corden makes acting comeback in new comedy series after announcing The Late Late Show exit

James Corden is to return to acting after he confirmed that he’s leaving The Late Late Show.

The 43-year-old actor, who has been living in the US for almost a decade, was cast to star in a new UK-based series called Mammals.

Corden, who shot to fame for starring in Gavin & Stacey, actually began filming last year after he was given the role Jamie Buckingham in Jez Butterworth’s Mammals.

It is the first acting performance that Cordon has picked up in three years, since he appeared in the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special.

A new teaser released by Amazon of the six-part comedy series features Corden alongside a stellar line up that includes Sally Hawkins, Melia Kreiling, Colin Morgan, Henry Lloyd-Hughes and Samuel Anderson.

The show is described by Butterworth as a ‘relationship drama but also a whodunit’ and is reportedly centred around the challenges of marriage.

His appearance in the upcoming series comes after Corden confirmed that he would be leaving the US talk show in 2023.

Corden has been part of theThe Late Late Show since he assumed the role in 2015 after Scottish-born comedian Craig Ferguson’s departure.

“Seven and half years ago I started hosting this show and there’s no other way to put it, it has changed my life,” he revealed in April.

“I love it, I love all the people that work here, I am so proud of what we’ve achieved, it’s been beyond my wildest, wildest dreams.

“When I started this journey it was always going to be just that, a journey, an adventure.

He added: “I never saw as it as my final destination, and I never want this show to overstay its welcome, I love making it and I really think in a year from now that will be a good time to move on and see what’s out there.”
