Dame Joan Collins has said the drama of 1980s soap Dynasty wasn't just resigned to the screen as "there was a lot of resentment" towards her from other cast members in real life.

The Alexis Carrington star has detailed that while she denied any rumour of rifts at the time, "the time has come" for her to speak out.

"There was a lot of resentment," she told Attitude. "I’ve been asked this question a million times, and when I was doing it, I would poo-poo it. I’d say, 'Oh, no, no'. But yes. There was."

While the show's first run received relatively low ratings, its popularity took a turn for the better after Collins, 86, joined the soap as Alexis Carrington in the season series to cause disruption in the lives of ex-husband Blake Carrington, played by John Forsythe, and his wife Krystle, played by Linda Evans.

However, she's claimed some co-stars didn't like that an English woman "saved the show".

She added: "First of all, the fact that I was English, some didn’t like that. This English woman comes in and saves the show. This is what the media said, because the show was about to be cancelled."

Collins went on to say that even at Dynasty reunions a few years ago she saw an "antipathy" toward her, and described co-stars Forysthe and Adam Carrington and Dex actors Gordon Thompson and Michael Nader as saying "not nice" things about her in interviews.

Although, the actress did add that she felt an "affinity" with Jeff Colby star John James.

The original Dynasty series ran for nine season from 1981 to 1989 with Collins appearing in a total of 195 episodes.

It was rebooted in 2017 with Alexis played by Nicollette Sheridan and Elizabeth Gillies for the first two seasons, with the role being given to Elaine Hendrix for season three.
