Speaking to The Sun about the rebooted series, Camilla Cleese teased what the show would be like: "There will be jokes that will be a little bit edgy but we’re not out to get anyone, we don’t dislike any people. That’s not the basis of it. People are a little sensitive nowadays, to put it lightly."

She added: "If anything we’re making fun of the show’s characters and their idiosyncrasies."

Cleese did also warn not to expect the show anytime soon, hinting that it could take up to three years to make.

John Cleese has previously said that the show would be set on a Caribbean island with Basil Fawlty and his daughter managing a hotel abroad.

Cleese also said the show would not air on the BBC, which showed the original series: "I’m not doing it with the BBC because I won’t get the freedom. I was terribly lucky before, because I was working for the BBC in the late 60s, 70s, and the beginning of the 80s."

Fawlty Towers originally aired for two seasons in 1975 and 1979 and was created by Cleese and his then wife Connie Booth who also starred in the show as waitress Polly.

Fawlty Towers also starred Prunella Scales as Basil's wife Sybil, but Scales announced her retirement from acting in 2020 due to suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

The show also featured Andrew Sachs as Manuel but Sachs died in 2016 at the age of 86.

Cleese has previously said that Basil would be the only returning character.
