Colin Trevorrow successfully revived the Jurassic Park franchise with Jurassic World in 2015 and now he's continuing the series with.... a short film.

The director tweeted that Battle at Big Rock: A Jurassic World Short Film will premiere this Sunday (September 15) on FX in the US, after it shows the 2015 movie.

The short film's cast consists of actors André Holland, Natalie Martinez, Melody Hurd and Pierson Salvador, while Pacific Rim: Uprising writer Emily Carmichael has penned the script.

Trevorrow spoke about the film to Collider, where he revealed: "Battle at Big Rock is a short film that takes place one year after the events of Fallen Kingdom.

"It's about a family on a camping trip to Big Rock National Park, about 20 miles from where the last film ended. There have been a few sightings, but this is the first major confrontation between dinosaurs and humans.

"We did it in five days with a small crew. We had two child actors, a giant animatronic dinosaur and a baby. It shouldn't have worked, but it did... It felt like an indie film, but with a massive animatronic."

It's just not this short film keeping the franchise going, but also an animated series set to hit Netflix next year, and a third movie directed by Trevorrow and written by Carmichael that is scheduled for release in 2021.
