Kate Garraway has revealed Sir Elton John offered to assist her family after her husband Derek Draper was hospitalised with coronavirus.

Garraway returned to Good Morning Britain this morning to share an update on Draper’s condition, saying she has received enormous support from all over the UK.

Speaking to Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, Garraway revealed some high-profile stars were among those offering their support - including none other than Sir Elton.

"Elton John contacted me... It was so strange, he was like; 'Hi Kate, it's Elton,'” she said.

"I was like 'Elton... John?' It's so strange. We do have a mutual friend, which I didn't know about.”

Revealing he called from America, Garraway said: "Because of all the work he does with the AIDS Foundation he was like, 'What can I do to help? I know a bit about antiviral stuff.’ And he said, ‘I'm on board, I'm on board, I'll try to help in any way I can.'”

She continued: “And I was so desperate. At this point it was very hard to communicate with the hospital, so I was like, 'yes, please help!'

"I know it sounds extraordinary, but at that point, I put the phone down and I was like, ‘That was Elton John. And I think he's going to help.’"

Garraway also revealed David Beckham sent supportive videos on social media.

Draper is no longer in an induced coma, but Garraway said she does not know what he can hear, see or feel.

She added that doctors warned her to prepare for his death on six seperate occasions.

“He was induced into the coma as a way of resting the lungs,” she said.

“Of course now they’re [doctors] no longer keeping people in a coma and he sort... of can’t wake up.

“Derek is in a minimum state of consciousness but we have no real knowledge of what he can see and hear and feel.”

She added: “His lungs are starting to recover a little bit, his kidneys are doing better, his liver is doing better. But they don’t know how much better he can get.

“It is a very desperate situation, it's very very difficult. Of course there's fantastic hope he's still alive, the doctors do keep saying it's a miracle he's still alive.”

Garraway will be returning to Good Morning Britain on Monday, hosting alongside Ben Shephard while Morgan and Reid take an extended break from the show.

Garraway confirmed she was excited to return, saying: “It’s lovely to be back… It’s like coming out of a bubble of sadness. It’s just so strange to still be in this situation.”

Garraway and Draper married in 2005 and have two children together, Darcey and Billy.
