Keith Barron dead: Coronation Street and Benidorm actor dies after short illness

British TV star Keith Barron has died aged 83 after a short illness.

Barron was best-known for playing David Pearce in Yorkshire Television series, Duty Free.

He also enjoyed roles in Coronation Street and Sunday night drama, Where the Heart Is as well as ITV comedy Benidorm.

Barron’s agent confirmed the news in a statement which read: “He had a long and varied career which included The Nigel Barton Plays by Dennis Potter of which he was immensely proud.

“He is survived by his wife Mary to whom he was married for 58 years and his son, Jamie, also an actor.”

Born in Yorkshire, Barron hit TV screens in the 1960s with roles in The Odd Man and It's Dark Outside.

His breakthrough came as Nigel Barton in Stand Up, Nigel Barton before going on to take on parts in Doctor Who, A Touch of Frost and Upstairs, Downstairs.

His final TV appearance was in DCI Banks where he played Arthur Banks for ten episodes last year.
