Kerry Katona has said This Morning “needs to go” after revealing she felt suicidal following her own “belittling” interview on the programme.

The former Atomic Kitten star spoke out as speculation continues over the future of the ITV show after the departure of presenter Phillip Schofield, who has admitted to having an affair with a much younger ITV staff member.

Katona was on the programme in 2008 and slurred her words as she chatted to Schofield and Fern Britton, sparking claims she was intoxicated.

Schofield pointed out the slurring but Katona explained that her speech had been affected by medication she was taking for bipolar disorder.

Recalling the interview on GB News, she said it had a long-lasting impact and called the show “fake, phoney and false".

“The culture at ITV and the toxicity and the aftercare is so lack of that I was left suicidal,” she said.

“No-one reached out to me whatsoever, it was so disgusting.”

“Being condescending, belittling to people with real issues on the sofa, who are they to give him the right for an opinion and tell them what’s right or wrong,” she went on.

Star 'triggered' by This Morning

Katona said This Morning still “triggers” her.

“People don’t understand what that interview did to me emotionally,” she explained.

“Even now when I go back to ITV… there is a sense of snobbery and I get looked down on.”

“I think the whole thing needs to go,” said the 42-year-old.

"It all needs revamping – the gods above, who are the little puppet masters, they need their strings cutting... they need to get new people in."

Katona said she and Schofield get on 'great'

Katona previously said there was no bad blood between her and Schofield.

"I mean I get on great with Phillip now, and he’s been absolutely lovely,” she said on the Marnie’s Home Truths podcast in 2021.

"I think we’ve all learnt a lot with regards to mental health. A hell of a lot."

Schofield's former presenting partner Holly Willoughby has taken a break from the sofa but is due to return on 5 June, although it has yet to be announced who she will be hosting with.
