Killing Eve: Best pop art inspired pyjama sets you need to unleash your inner Villanelle

Beige, bows and neon may have dominated the spring/summer 2019 catwalks but we have a feeling you might be adding children’s-inspired nightwear to your wishlist this year. And it’s all thanks to Killing Eve season two.

Over the weekend, the hit BBC Three drama returned to the small screen, welcoming back assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) and MI6 agent Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) in the aftermath of their near-fatal encounter at the end of season one.

In the first episode of the second series, Villanelle wears a pair of bright blue pyjamas emblazoned with words including “pow” and “bam” in a pop art-inspired print, prompting intrigue from fans of the show on social media.

“I am a bit obsessed with trying to find Villanelle’s pyjamas from #KillingEve” wrote one user.

Another added: “Need me some of those #KillingEve pyjamas.”

Charlotte Mitchell, Killing Eve season two’s costume designer, recently told ELLE the inspiration behind the pyjamas, revealing they were custom-made for the programme.

"Initially, they were going to be Spider-Man pyjamas - that’s how it was written in the script,” Mitchell said.

“But we realised very quickly that Spider-Man is heavily branded and we didn’t think Marvel was going to allow us to use him.”

“We looked around for fabric and found this amazing comic book fabric, which was a stretchy Lycra, so I could make them tighter and tighter. I added the red trimming on the sleeves and trousers to really highlight the ends to show they are too short. It was actually quite tricky for a simple pair of pyjamas.”

Celebrities including Rihanna, Irina Shayk, and Zendaya have long been wearing pyjamas as streetwear, with the likes of fashion designers Thakoon, Marc Jacobs and Gucci having shown loungewear on the runway in recent years.
