Kirsty Wark, Sonam Kapoor and Liz Johnson to host third series of Jamavar's Women’s Club

Jamavar will kick off its third annual Women’s Club series at the end of this month, with special guests including BBC broadcaster Kirsty Wark, Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor and gold medal-winning Paralympian Liz Johnson.

Throughout the summer, the Mayfair Indian restaurant will run a series of dinners in its subterranean bar, each centred on talks by influential women in media and sport.

Launched by co-founder Samyukta Nair, the events are designed to be a contrast to the male-dominated clubs that have populated Mayfair throughout its history. Men are welcome to attend the events, but only as the guest of a female ticket holder.

“It is important to me to demonstrate that by sharing stories of our failures, our successes and all the things that happen in between, we learn from each other,” said Nair.

“We can’t wait to get things started again and, of course, as we all know, all good conversations take place around the dinner table.”

The inaugural event will take place on July 29, hosted by BAFTA-winning Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark, who has presented the BBC news show for 26 years. This will be followed by evenings hosted by Sonam Kapoor, the acclaimed Bollywood actress (August 5), and an evening with Liz Johnson, the three-time World Champion swimmer who won gold at the Beijing Paralympics in 2008 (August 12).

Following a glass of Laurent Perrier champagne and canapes to accompany the talks, guests will be served a three-course meal designed by Jamavar chef Surender Mohan. Menu choices include Tellichery pepper and garlic soft shell crab, bhatti ka paneer with mint chutney and murgh aloo.

Tickets cost £55 per person, including dinner. Jamavar Women’s Club runs from July 29 - August 12 at 8 Mount Street, Mayfair, W1K 3NF. For more information, visit jamavarrestaurants.com
