Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan sing Especially For You at Hyde Park for BBC Radio 2 Live

Kylie Minogue reunited with Jason Donovan during her headline performance at Hyde Park in London for Radio 2 Live.

Minogue teased the audience by beginning their famous hit duet “Especially For You” on her own, with a gospel choir singing Donovan’s lines.

After the second chorus she sighed and commented “I need a dance partner” before her former Neighbours co-star joined her on stage.

He took Minogue in his arms and spun her around before joining her in a duet for the song’s finale, the pair swaying back and forth in the same way as their 1988 Top of the Pops appearance.

It later emerged that Donovan was not scheduled to perform, and had only turned up at the event to support his friend.

After the performance he tweeted: “I literally turned up on my bike to support my friend @kylieminogue and next thing you know I’m onstage @BBCRadio2 Hyde Park in front of 70,000 people recreating those dance moves Especially For You 1988... mad! Loved every second. Thank you for all your support. Memories = Magic.”

Minogue treated her fans to several surprises during her performance on 9 September. She also brought out Rick Astley for a duet of his hit 1987 song “Never Gonna Give You Up”, which he had previously serenaded her with for her 50th birthday party in May this year.

A brief technical issue prompted her to do impromptu a capella versions of “Got To Be Certain”, “Step Back In Time” and “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi”.

Other stars to perform on the festival lineup include Lenny Kravitz, Rita Ora, Manic Street Preachers, Boyzone and All Saints.

Minogue launches her Golden tour in Newcastle on 18 September.
