Kym Marsh has responded to her low score on the first week of Strictly Come Dancing.

The dance competition returned to BBC One on Saturday, 24 September after being delayed earlier in the month because of the death of the Queen.

Opening the show was Coronation Street star Kym Marsh but she received sharp criticism from judge Craig Revel-Horwood, who awarded her and her dance partner Graziano Di Prima just four out of ten.

Marsh responded to the criticism on Morning Live, saying: "I mean, obviously it's disappointing, isn't it, because we did work very hard.

"But you've gotta take it on the chin and accept the comment and just kind of move forward with it, so we have taken onboard what he said."

Di Prima appeared alongside Marsh on the show and also offered his thoughts: "Obviously we're gonna take it onboard and work harder, but listen, she's a diamond.

"I know what she can do, she's been working so hard and you know we're gonna do our best again. I think she was brilliant, I think she was genuinely brilliant.

"And to open Strictly 2022... trust me, I'm a professional dancer, I was shaking. So she was perfect, she was dancing by herself. I couldn't be more proud of that."

While Marsh received criticism for her performance, her Coronation Street colleague Will Mellor received rave reviews, bagging a total of 34 out of 40 for his dance.

Joining him at the top of the leaderboard on the same score is wildlife presenter Hamza Yassin.

Conversely, football legend and former Arsenal captain Tony Adams received only 15 points from the judges.

Strictly Come Dancing airs every Saturday night on BBC One.
