It looks like The Last Ship may not be ending after all, despite claims from one of the show's cast members that she series was on its way out.

It comes after star Travis Van Winkle (Danny Green) seemingly confirmed in a since-deleted Instagram post that the show would finish after the fifth season next summer.

However, network TNT has now clarified the situation, suggesting that the show could possibly go into a sixth season – though an official decision is yet to be made.

"We shot two seasons simultaneously; the fourth is currently on the air and the fifth will return next summer," the network said in a statement (via TVLine).

TNT original programming EVP Sarah Aubrey previously promised fans that they were in for another "exciting ride" in the fifth season.

"We look forward to watching the cast and production team ratchet up the drama, action and suspense even more over the next two seasons, through summer 2018," she said.

The fifth series of The Last Ship is expected to air in summer 2018.
