Line of Duty fans were surprised by an unexpected EastEnders connection in the latest episode.

The BBC drama returned to screens for its fifth series last month, and since then, there have been plenty of twists, turns and shocking deaths – and there's even been some surprises behind-the-scenes as well.

As noticed by several Twitter users, the most recent episode which aired on Sunday (April 28) was directed by Sue Tully, who originally played Michelle Fowler in EastEnders.

Mind = blown.

Another familiar face who cropped up in episode five was Bletchley Circle star Anna Maxwell Martin.

The actress joined Line of Duty for the series' penultimate episode this week and will return for the finale this weekend.

She's playing anti-corruption detective Chief Superintendent Patricia Carmichael, who joined up with AC-12 following the imprisonment of Ted Hastings.

Although, after that latest episode, viewers are convinced Ted is actually innocent and is being framed.
